How to determine the amount of border tiles that you will need:

Example 1 (pencil trim borders):  12 tile mural on 6" tile ---  24" x 18"

Add up the dimensions of all sides

                       18+18+24+24 = 84"
                       add 8" for 45 degree cuts on pencil trim  84+8 = 90"

                       90 / 12 = 7.5 total pieces (round up to 8 pieces)

Example 2 (picture frame borders):  12 tile mural on 6" tile ---  24" x 18"

Add up the dimensions of all sides

                       18+18+24+24 = 84"

add 16" for 45 degree cuts on picture frame borders 84+16 = 100"

                       100 / 12 = 8.3 total pieces (round up to 9 pieces)

Using a border to "frame" your mural completes your tile mural just as a beautiful frame completes a beautiful painting. Framing your mural with natural stone border/trim tiles also makes a great transition from the colors of the mural to the colors of your field tile.

Below are the three types/colors of border tiles that we offer.

The travertine ivory is a very light cream or biscuit color.
The travertine noce is a bit darker with a richer tan or beige color.
Note that these travertine tiles are pitted (they have holes in them). This is a natural characteristic feature of travertine.

The marble nouveau nero has a black body with marbling of gray/white throughout. This marble tile is generally smooth.

**Please Note** - The inherent natural characteristics of travertine and marble is that these materials are after all - natural. No two pieces are exactly alike. Natural stone is quarried from the Earth. Varying locations of the quarry as well as environmental impacts as the stone formed will have an effect on the colors, veining and pitting of each piece. The images we provide here can only be used as guidelines for how the actual pieces you receive will look. You may receive pieces that are darker or lighter, have more or less veining, and/or have more or less pitting than the images below. The pieces you receive will be beautiful as they are unique all to their own and may not look exactly as pictured below.
