Paul Brent was born in Oklahoma City in 1946. His parents were educators and his mother was a descendant of an Oklahoma pioneer family. He grew up in southwest Oklahoma and attended schools there until he was thirteen. After high school, he attended California State University at Long Beach, where he majored in art and transferred to the University of California at Berkeley to study architecture. After completing a Bachelor of Architecture degree at Berkeley, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City. While in the Air Force, Brent met his wife Lana Jane, and they married in 1968.
Paul now resides most of the year in Seaside, Oregon and maintains an art gallery in Panama City, Florida, where he spends part of the year. He has a studio and home in Seaside.
