Artist Spotlight – Dawn Gerety

Born in Australia, Dawn Gerety was raised in Alaska. She has been creating art since her early childhood. Gerety studied Environmental Design at the University of Colorado-Boulder, where she also minored in Art History. After graduation, she worked as a graphic designer for Bradley Reid Communications. The lifelong Alaskan, Dawn Gerety, paints whimsical interpretations of the natural world. Her paintings use layers of organic elements and unconventional interpretations of land. The Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted between 1508 and 1512, is considered one of the cornerstones of High Renaissance Art. With this in mind, local businessman John Byrne commissioned Gerety to paint the ceiling of a popular restaurant. The artist created eight panel sections and 65 disco balls. The entire painting took four weeks, from conception to completion. Gerety’s work can be found in a number of museums throughout the country, including the U.S. State Department of Interior.
